Surprise Visitors

Sometimes you don’t even have to leave your house to see some wonderful wildlife. This morning I had a surprise rare visit from Mr and Mrs Bullfinch. They were first attracted to the apple tree blossom but were probably disappointed to find that as yet there are no emerging apples to nibble off. So they had to make do with eating dandelion seeds off the dandelion clocks on our needing to be mowed grass. Mr Bullfinch was stuffing his face with them!

We get chaffinches and more commonly green finches in our garden. The green finches trill repetitively on the trees and bushes and are regulars are at our bird feeder.

Bullfinches are one of my favourite birds as they are so striking with their bold black, grey, pink and white colours. Here are Mr And Mrs photographed up the back lane in very early spring.

I also caught them doing acrobatics in January!

This photo was taken in autumn time around the ponds. Bullfinches can surprise you at any time of the year and add a splash of colour to your walks.
