Where’s Owly?

In the “Where’s Wally?” books you have to scan very carefully to find Wally hidden on the page. When I go to Owl Wood now I have to search just as hard amongst the trees to find the tawny owl. It is so expertly camouflaged that I can be staring right at it and still not see it. Can you find the owl in the photo below?

The fresh green leaves make it more difficult to spot the owl now. Did you find it?

Here’s another one taken on today’s walk. See if you can spot it this time. This owl was being mobbed by blackbirds but it did not seem to worry.

Here is a close up of this owl. I am quite sure this is not the same owl which appears on the first of these blogs as its face markings seem quite different. This one seems a bit chunkier and a lighter brown colour. Maybe it’s the other parent. Maybe it’s the owlet with its adult plummage now. Owlets get their adult plummage two weeks after they fledge as it is then that they start to fly. However they depend on adults to feed them for a further two to three months.

The owl below is definitely the parent as this was the photo of it looking over towards its owlets from my first blog post.

I’ve still to photograph an owl in flight. They are so silent when they fly and are out of sight before I can even reach for the camera.
