I was wildlife watching from my dad’s back garden today. There a pair of cheeky blue tits have set up home in an old vent on the side of the house. It used to be the vent for the larder, which helped keep food cool on a stone slab before a fridge did the job. Dad tried putting netting over the vent to keep them out but they chewed their way through it. In the end he gave up and let nature takes its course. We can’t hear the chicks inside, I’m guessing because they are quite far back. Both parents are definitely busy feeding a brood though.

It looks like a tight squeeze through the vent but it seems just right for them.
A sparrow tried to get into the vent and was met by a squawking tit who came out and fought him off …FIGHT!

The sparrow momentarily lost its balance and then flew off.

I accidentally managed to capture some lovely shadows of the tits as they went in and out of their vent.

Now and again, as my dad lay napping, the tits too would take a wee rest on the clothes line. It’s a hard job this parenting lark!
