Branching Out

Buddy and Holly have finally branched out from their nest. They are now ready to begin flying and hunting lessons. Here are some pictures of them this evening. When I braved the midges in Buzzard Wood this evening I could hear their high pitched squeals from the trees. I saw that the nest was empty and caught sight of one on a branch on the neighbouring tree. So lovely to see the developing plumage and get a much clearer view of the youngster.

I looked around for the second chick and found it on a branch higher up and further back. It had its back to me but had a look over its shoulder at me. So bonny!

I then got myself in a position to take the pair together,

It has been almost six weeks since I first spotted the buzzard chicks. Here’s a reminder of how they looked all these weeks ago, alien looking bundles of white fluff.

I’m looking forward to getting a respite now from being bitten by ferocious midges in the wood and instead watching how the flying lessons are going over the surrounding grasslands.

  1. What a difference in 6 weeks!
The midgies have been brutal. I got bitten on the upper lip on Tuesday evening and was too embarrassed to leave the house on Wednesday. I looked like I’d had a filler done and it had gone wrong 🙈
