Hide and Seek

I went up to the wildlife hide at David Marshall Lodge today to see if I could photograph some red squirrels for a “Bright Eyed and Bushy Tales Part 2” blog. However all the feeders were empty and there were no red squirrels to be seen. The only wildlife to be seen were some birds around a bird table with peanuts on it and a pair of bonny wee bank voles popping in and out of holes in a bank and at the base of a tree. Here is a nut hatch.

A coal tit was taking advantage of the food on offer too.

Here a tiny wren was in its preferred position close to the ground. It had hopped up onto a chained up ladder, presumably the one normally used by rangers to climb up to the bird feeders.

Robins are always up for a photo opportunity. I think this is quite a young robin posing for the camera.

A chaffinch was also hanging around the usually mobbed hide.

Alas, no red squirrels this time but there were a couple of bank voles scurrying about the ground. Can you spot the one below?

Here’s a closer view.

And better still some close up shots of this cute creature.

Cheating here, but this is what was missing from the hide today. These photographs were taken last year at the hide.
