Unable to take to the skies myself this spring and summer because of the global pandemic I’ve been enjoying a different form of in-flight entertainment. Here are some of my favourite flight moments. Firstly a sequence of photos showing a swan coming into land on a loch. What a wingspan it has!

While I’ve been going into Buzzard Wood to watch the chicks the buzzard parents have been flying overhead, keeping a wee eye on me as well as hunting for dinner. They have beautiful patterning on the underside of their wings.

What a thrill it has been to observe ospreys close by too. They have more splayed wingtips.

It was great to see the fishermen back on the loch too as lockdown eased. They were very friendly to me and encouraged me to keep up my wildlife watches around their fishing loch. They showed me some excellent osprey photos pinned up on their clubhouse wall. They are pleased to share their loch with the osprey. Here the osprey and fishermen look to be trying for the same catch. In this instance neither party got lucky.

These crows were not too pleased with the osprey impinging on their territory though. Or maybe they hoped it would drop its catch and leave it to them?

Here’s a herring gull taking off from its log perch shared by a black headed gull. maybe it’s seen someone with a bag of chips!

Keep an eye out for barn owls flying over fields hunting at dawn and dusk. I was lucky enough to see and hear one recently. They make quite a haunting screeching noise. I’m afraid I’ve yet to catch one on camera.
