Things have quietened down a lot since the busyness of spring, The birds have got quieter, the foliage thicker and better for hiding creatures, so I’m going to make this my last wildlife watch for a while. I thought it’d be fun to show some of the photos where I missed my target, or got it but all blurry. I’ll start with this hare, well, it IS Britain’s fastest mammal, reaching speeds of up to 45mph.

I’ve only seen one kingfisher this whole spring/early summer. It zipped past me up the river Glazert. This picture is not it, but one I tried to take along the canal last year. I knew nothing of shutter speeds then, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

We saw some beautiful wee pheasant chicks scuttling into undergrowth at a nearby loch. They were SO fast though and I just could not get a decent shot of one. This was the best I could do.

One day I was walking back down the lane when this stoat ran across the lane in front of me. I was totally caught off guard but managed to get a slightly blurry photo of it. It was carrying something in its mouth, possible a leveret or its own kitten.

This would have been a great picture of a grey squirrel leaping from one branch to another…

People have been so complimentary about my photographs, but I do say, “You’re only seeing the best of a lot of shots”. Here’s one of the osprey that did not make it into the “Awesome Ospreys” post!

Can you work out what these blurred birds are?

That was a goldcrest.

And this one a blue tit leaving its nest in a wall.

And this is the only photo I have ever taken of a tawny owl in flight. My ambition is to try and get a lovely sharp image of one. Maybe in the nest series of Sarah’s Wildlife Watch…
