A sight I’ve always wanted to see for myself …goosander chicks hitching a ride on their mum’s back! I’d seen photographs but had never ever seen goosander chicks, let alone them hitching a lift. We were nearing the end of a riverside walk where all we’d seen were some black headed gulls. But then we spotted a greyish duck on the far side of the river and to our delight spotted some chicks too.
My first photos were taken from quite high up above on the riverbank. And when the mum and chicks disappeared from view into the nearside bank I ignored nettle stings and got a muddy backside as I slid down the bank to get a better view. It was worth it!
What a treat, as the saying goes, “a sight for sore eyes”!
