Autumn is approaching and squirrels are actively collecting and stashing nuts. I’ve been watching both greys and reds busy doing this. I photographed this cheeky grey squirrel in Northern Ireland. Here its looking hopefully at me, hoping I might have some nuts to give.

Of course I was a big disappointment and it jumped off when it realised I was a lost cause.

The red squirrels at Aberfoyle are far less tame, but you can watch them from the hide. Here the park rangers put out peanuts to attract wildlife to the hide.

This wee red was a real cutie.

Reds are smaller than grey squirrels but no less agile. This one was hard to photograph when on the move.

At Aberfoyle it wasn’t just squirrels feasting on the nuts. The aptly named nuthatch was taking advantage of the good supply.

So was a mouse. It kept popping up from under this log and grabbing a nut then beating a hasty retreat.

Yes, lots of creatures going nuts, including myself, nuts about wildlife!!
