Happy Christmas! It’s cold and dreich outside but the wildlife just gets on with it. As long as there’s water and food most can survive the cold. There seems to be an abundance of robins and not just those pictured on Christmas cards. They add a splash of red to the winter landscape and their song is bright and cheery.

This pair of mallards added a touch of colour to a black and white frosty day. While below the golden eye duck didn’t mind the cold water.

Here an egret waded out to catch some fish.

These mute swans were gathering at a lochside waiting for people to throw them some bread and seeds. The bread is not so good for them but they’ll take what they can get.

This heron stood out when it flew low against the bare bushes.

This bedraggled looking buzzard was perched looking for some prey, even some juicy worms would do.

Here its dark eyes gleam and it prepares to take off from the post.

Time for me to buzz off too. Happy winter wildlife watching!
