I’ve just got back from the Isle of Jura where I was lucky enough to spot an otter at least ten times! They were enjoying the good weather as much as us humans and it was a treat to watch them fishing along the shoreline.

This one crossed a sandy beach in front of me and then got down to the business of catching crabs for its lunch.

It climbed up out of the water onto a rock. This sand piper photo bombed the shot!

It settled on a rock and and I was close enough to hear it cracking open the hard shell and crunching with its sharp teeth. The front of its head started to dry in the sun and made it look as if it had a mane like a lion.

It was thoroughly enjoying its snack.

Then it returned to the water to fish some more, swimming amongst the seaweed.

When it dived under its tail made a sleek arch.

It wasn’t long before it popped up again with another crab to crack open. It showed off its great set of razor sharp teeth.

This time as it lay munching a crow stood close by, hoping to get some left overs.

It didn’t leave much for the crow. Once more it plopped back into to the water, still hungry. I must have seen it consume at least three crabs. When it was quite full up for the time being it lay basking in the sunlit water. Then it swam away out of sight.
