Woodland Acrobats

Tree Creeper

It seemed on a recent walk that all the wee birds were hiding but then I came upon some acrobatic birds busy finding grubs to eat on tree branches. Not only were there busy tree creepers but nuthatches were working the same patch of woodland.

Nuthatch

It’s not often I see a nuthatch the right way up. They can most often be seen heading down tree trunks head first.

Tree creepers on the other hand are most often seen scaling up and round bark often completely blending in with the tree.

Bullfinches can sometimes be seen completely upside down too.

Another key woodland acrobat is the squirrel, red or grey. They have no problems scaling up and down tree trunks.

The red squirrel was caught on camera up at Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. Unfortunately I can’t get up there just now due to travel restrictions but thankfully we have grey squirrels and lots of acrobatic birds in the woods here at home.
