Brief Encounters, Aberfoyle

Here are a few photos from a visit to Aberfoyle today. It is a bit of a cheat going to the bird hide at David Marshall Lodge, however it does almost guarantee a red squirrel sighting. We only saw the one today although it was a very short visit. There were “hunners” of small birds, all vying for seeds and nuts. At this squirrel feeder there was a clear pecking order with an aggressive nuthatch getting first pickings followed by chaffinches and blue tits.

There were also coal tits and robins around but the majority of birds were chaffinches. THis chaffinch was rather puffed up and poorly looking.

A pigeon too was trying to get its share of the nut crumbs. Here it is peeking around this tree trunk.

Away from the forest we drove past this honey coloured animal grazing in long grass. At first I thought it must be a calf but when it raised its head I saw it was this beautiful deer.
