February Favourites

The song thrushes have begun singing, a sure sign that Spring is not far away now. This one was warming up on top of our garden shed.

Here are some favourite photos from being out and about this February. This mute swan’s head had just come out from the water.

I managed to creep up quite close to this brown hare which was in a corner of a field near a main track.

I do try not to disturb then …honest!

About 6 or 7 roe deer have been grazing and relaxing in a field nearby.

I do love long tailed tits, though I’ve been finding them hard to photograph as they flit about so fast.

This blue tit was quite stunning against this rare February blue sky.

Last week we visited friends who have a resident blackbird whom they call “The Reverend” on account of his white collar. He is “leucistic” which means he has a patch of white colouring due to a pigment deficiency.

Our friends also have a visiting pheasant who pecks at the window to get in! It was great to see the detail of his vibrant plumage close up.

It’s now the last day of February, the 29th since this is a leap year. I’m looking forward to whatever treats this Spring will have in store.
